Gerleová, Jana ; Žemlička, Josef (advisor) ; Doležalová, Eva (referee)
Nowadays, study of Czech and Moravian nobility is very popular in Czech historiography. There are many studies, which are dealing with this phenomenon in the social, genealogical, economic and cultural context. From modern monographs of important noble families, we can name for example monographs of Hrabišici, Ronovci, Vítkovci etc. The Lords of Valdek, who have not been deeply studied yet, could be undoubtedly added to this line as well. Their domain occupies territory between the Valdek castle and the Žebrák castle. The main part of this work will be the structure of the history of this family and its members. The family residence, already mentioned Valdek Castle and Žebrák Castle, will also be the part of the research. Attention will be given also to the Lords's of Valdek pious foundation, to the monasteries called saint Benigna near Zaječov village. The main goal of this bachelor thesis will be to describe the role of the genus from Valdek on the royal court, which culminated in the 14th century. Key words: Middle Ages, Valdek, Žebrák, Hořovice-region, castle, residence, czech nobility, fundation, colonization
The image of war and militarism in the 16th - 17 century through the eyes of Czech nobles
Opavová, Tereza ; Šedivá Koldinská, Marie (advisor) ; Holý, Martin (referee)
The main subject of the diploma thesis is the view of the war and the military through the early modern opinions of lower nobles, especially by Henry Hýzrl from the Chod (1575- 1665) and Sigmund Chotek of Chotkov (1521-1603). The time frame is set from the 16. to 17. century. Views on contemporary defence of the country are reconstructed on the basis of previously unreleased military debate which is titled Kriegsdiscurs über der hochlöblichen Cron Bohemia Landtdefension by Henry Hýzrl from the Chod. This debate is partly accessible in academic edition at the end of the thesis. The next source, for understanding the intellectual world of the Czech nobility during the wars with the Turks, is military instruction by Sigmund Chotek of Chotkov. The work is based on military debate by Henry Hýzrl from Chod. It is a completely unique view of the war through the view of the Bohemian nobleman.
The Education for Czech Languague at the Family of Johann Nepomuk von Schwarzenberg
PSOTKOVÁ, Jana
The present Bachelor's thesis deals with the education for Czech language at the family of Johann Nepomuk von Schwarzenberg. Our account is based on the textbook Knjžka k učenj se česky, which was written in 1778 for the young prince Joseph of Schwarzenberg. The study endeavours to reconstruct the contents and the form of the manual. Secondly, I attempt to make a comparative analysis of our textbook with Czech grammar manuals from the 18th century. Furthermore, I try to identify its author. The Bachelor's thesis is divided into five chapters. The introduction surveys the current scholarship related to the subject of our research and the archival sources. The first two chapters discuss the development of Czech language in the 18th century. I describe the situation of the Czech language in the 18th century and the developments of the Czech linguistic research in the 18th century. The third chapter explores the Bohemian aristocracy?s relation to the Czech language in the period from the 16th to the 18th century. The fourth chapter presents the history of Czech language within the Schwarzenberg family. The fundamental part of our work is the fifth chapter, which analyzes the Schwarzenberg textbook and addresses the following problems: the method of the linguistic education, the contents, the language and the authorship of the textbook. In conclusion I sum up the results of my research.
